TURMERIC

Turmeric is very popular in Malaysia. It is used in cooking especially in Malay cuisine and Indian cuisine. For Malay, they use turmeric in making soup and rendang. Its leaf will gives aroma especially in rendang. While, in Indian uses turmeric as an additional flavour. They put turmeric when making curry because of its colour and taste.

Normally, the cooker will prefer to choose turmeric in cooking rather than they choose turmeric powder. The powder is already mixed with preservatives. So, the taste is not same and does not natural with the turmeric that taken from soil.

The scientific name for turmeric is Curcuma longa (L). It comes from Zingiberacrae family. The research has been done a few years ago. The researcher tells that they are many nutrients from the top of the plant until the bottom.

We can find the plant at the village area. They will plant the turmeric at the house. It is easy for them in case they want to use the turmeric. They need to go out and take it at their yard. This plant can adapt with the soil but, it does not grow at the sandy soil.
 

​

 

Sometimes, the turmeric can reach one metre high. It has a broad leaf where it is acuminate at the leaf apexes.  The leaf is used especially in cooking to make the aroma of cooking. The turmeric has rhizome that is yellowish orange. The kind of plant breeds through its rhizome.
 

​

The turmeric can help in treating stomach ache, antioxidant, ache, constipation, diabetes, irregular menstruation and prevent cancer. In order to prevent this kind of problems, we need to drink the juice from the rhizome. It will help reduce the problem. The young rhizome is suitable used in eating and makes it as a side dish for antioxidant.
