Once upon a time, there lived a King with his seven princesses in a castle near to the river bank. The youngest princess called Puteri Bongsu was a beautiful princess and the King loved her more than the others. The other six princesses never felt jealous with her as they knew, Puteri Bongsu was a good and obedient daughter.

At the other side of the river bank, there lived a woman called Mak Siti in her small hut. Mak Siti was a very good woman, she always helped the other villagers and sometimes she played with their children. She loved children so much and always dreamed to have her own child one day. However, Mak Siti never got married and she lived alone in her hut. She worked as a farmer to support her life. Sometimes, she will go to the jungle to find some extra foods and fireworks.

One fine day, Mak Siti went to the jungle as her usual routine which are to find fireworks and foods. Unfortunately, she forgot to bring her water as always. The day also got hotter than usual and Mak Siti was so thirsty.

‘If and only if I found water, even a little is enough for me,’ Mak Siti prayed with a weak voice.

She could not able to walk and returned home anymore as her condition was so weak. Lastly, she decided to take a rest at one big shady tree that was near to her. While looking around the area, suddenly, something attracted her sight. There was a little water in a coconut shell near to the tree. As there was nobody there except herself, Mak Siti drank all of the water. Then, she felt so fresh and able to continue her journey to return home.

A few days later, Mak Siti felt something wrong with herself. She felt unhealthy and always vomited. She also could not work hard as usual and always felt nausea. She then knew that she got pregnant and she was so eager to have her own child. Maybe the water that she drank in the jungle was a magic water and she was so happy with that. One night, she was sleeping recklessly after work for a whole day at the farm. Then, a big old ape appeared in her dream.

‘I have fulfilled your wish. Now, I hope you will take care of your child and love him as you love yourself. Maybe he will bring a good luck to you one day,’ Then, the ape was disappeared.

Mak Siti was so afraid and could not sleep all the night. However, she then realized that the baby that grows in her womb was not an ordinary human. Mak Siti took care of her baby as requested and finally after nine months ten days, she delivered her baby. As expected, the baby was not a human but an ape that have the human characteristics. Although he was not a human, Mak Siti accepted her baby as a normal human. She then named her son as Beruk Tunggal.

Beruk Tunggal lived happily with Mak Siti and he always helped her mother in their farm. Mak Siti was getting older and she could not work hard as before, so, Beruk Tunggal had asked her to stay at home. He then continued his mother’s role as a farmer and took care of their paddy field.

On that year, paddy crops were very good. Unfortunately, they were all destroyed by a group of rats. Beruk Tunggal catches all the rats that destroyed his paddy plant. Then, he searched the King of the rat and warned him to take care of his people. The King Rat was so afraid as he knew that Beruk Tunggal was a fairy prince.

“I didn’t know that the paddy field was belonging to you,” said the King Rat.

“I don’t care. My paddy field has been destroyed. What should you do now?” Beruk Tunggal asked with anger.

“I will ask all of my peoples to gather gold grains for you,” answered the King Rat in fears.

“Well, if you said so, I’ll receive the grant!” said Beruk Tunggal.

After a few days, all the mice came to Beruk Tunggal’s hut and brought a lot of gold grains. Mak Siti was very happy as their hut was full of gold.

As their life was getting better than before, Beruk Tunggal asked her mother to go the castle and proposed one of the princesses to be his wife. Mak Siti refused to do so at the first place because she afraid, Beruk Tunggal will be rejected by the King. However, Beruk Tunggal keep convince her that the King will accept him as his son-in-law. At last, Mak Siti went to the castle with a big hope. The King was so surprised to hear the marriage proposal from Mak Siti. Although he did think that the proposal was ridiculous, he did not make his own decision. The King called all of her princesses and told them about the proposal.

“What? Married with an ape? That is impossible father. I refused to marry him,” said Puteri Sulung. The other princesses agreed with her sister except Puteri Bongsu.

With a soft and polite voice, Puteri Bongsu said, “I am willing to marry him,”

The King and his Queen was so pity on her. Then, the King came out with an idea that might cancel the wedding proposal. He wanted Mak Siti prepared a diamond ring as a marriage gift. He was so sure that Mak Siti could not provide the ring.

Mak Siti returned home with tears and asked Beruk Tunggal to cancel the proposal. She knew that they could not able to prepare the ring as requested. But, Beruk Tunggal was so clever. He asked her father, the King of Eden for help. On the midnight, his father sent a bunch of diamond ring for him. Mak Siti was so happy to see the rings and sent it to the castle on the next day. She then asked the King to choose the right ring for Puteri Bongsu. Although the King was hesitated to marry his princess with Beruk Tunggal, he could not escape. At the end of the week, Puteri Bongsu and Beruk Tunggal were married.

The King did not want Beruk Tunggal stayed with them in the castled. So, after their wedding ceremony, Puteri Bongsu followed her husband to stay at his small hut with her mother-in-law. On the first night staying there, Puteri Bongsu found an ape case. The next morning, she got a shocked when saw her husband was not an ape anymore but, he had transform to a handsome prince.

“Actually, I am the Prince from Eden. Go and burn the ape case. Take a little dust and spread it outside the hut. While doing so, make a wish as you please,” said the son of King Eden.

Puteri bongsu followed the instruction and make a wish that their small hut will change to a castle. Her husband was right. When she opened her eyes, there is a big castle completed with a beautiful garden in front of her which replaced the small hut. At the end, Puteri Bongsu and Beruk Tunggal or the Prince of Eden lived happily in the castle with Mak Siti.
